I've had it. We are always waiting on our computer to process... The "dinosaur" is slower than well, the slowest dinosaur! Now we are taking action, but we need your help with the great debate: PC / MAC? ...leave your comment!
PC, you will definitely drop more on a mac, but what exactly are you dropping it on? The exact same thing that a PC does. Call Tyler for questions, he can steer you in the right direction as far as PC's go, but he refuses to steer anyone towards Macs (he likes to save people from spending more on computers than they have to and plus he's a computer geek) (Can we tell that this is a soap box of mine?? :D ) Whatever you get, it will run faster than the dinosaur you have now.
Trish, It depends on your budget. Kelly now has a 27 inch iMac and a macbookpro--and I've never seen her so into computers. She was always calling me about computer stuff. Now, we talk about everything else! Like, when Oscar counts he keeps skipping 15, because 15 hurts his feelings. Alas, I digress.
I have to Macs, a MacMini (which you can snag for about $600, and use your existing keyboard, mouse, etc), and a Macbook Pro (laptop). LOVE it, LOVE it, LOVE it.
Then, for my desktop computers, I grabbed my old dinasaur windows machines, and installed Ubuntu on it. I can't even tell you how much I love it. I'm tying on it right now. IT'S FREE. If you are really ready to dump your old machine--back up all your data--then install Ubuntu. Go to http://www.ubuntu.org to download the CD to install it. I put mine on a thumb drive and as my ol' windows machines slowly died of bloatation, I just popped Ubuntu on it. Couldn't be happier.
And, last but not least, I do have ONE machine with Windows on it. I rarely work on it, except when I need to use some of my older programs that are only windows based. If I ever have someone come over, who needs to borrow a computer, I pop 'em on my MacMini or this Windows Machine. It's Windows 7, and I actually quite like it. It seems faster and such, but it's not as fast as my Ubuntu machines. And, I love, love, love the customization and desktop features. There is so many effects you can put on Ubuntu (Mac has copied some of those effects, by the way).

In summary:
Ubuntu Positives: FREE, Fast, personalisation is amazing, AND the effects are just cool. There is an amazing world of FREE, yes, FREE software. You can get free "Word," (Open office or Libre) Free Photoshop (GIMP),and tons more. FREE. And, if you don't like it, you just remove it. And, you can throw it on an older machine, and try it out. You can even try it out, from the CD and NOT install it. That can be slower though.
Negatives: You do have to install yourself. You can go to www.system76.com, and get a pre-built machine there. I looked at their site, and the prices look solid. They get rave reviews. They offer tech support also. But, I didn't do it that way, I just installed myself, so if anything goes wrong you do have to do some searching on the net. (I've never had any problems, but others I know have had problems). And, I'm a bit of a meiser, so I love this whole free deal. :)
Mac: Cool that just works outta the box, with support at any apple store (just sign up for a genius). The point is, you'll never have any problems, they last forever, and they are just plain cool. I did your generational pics on a first generation iMac, and it's still more powerful for graphics than ANY of my windows machines.
Windows: Everyone has 'em--so that's handy. But, they are bloated with upgrades. Virus's and spyware is much more rampant (but Macs are starting to get infected more, Ubuntu--none).
One of the guys I work with got a cool Mac, but had licenses for all his Adobe stuff via his windows. So, he had to go back to Windows. Otherwise, he love Macs.
His windows machine was getting really slow, so he put Ubuntu on it this week. Last night he said, "I can't tell you how much I love Ubuntu. It's so fast and cool." There are some programs you can get that let you work your Windows apps, and he's trying that now. I'll let you know if it works.
OK, sorry for rambling, but this post was very near and dear to my heart!

I say Mac! This is coming from a PC user, but we do have a Macbook Air in the house too. Mac is what I am wishing for! :D
I agree with everyone else...Mac. I think that's what our next computer will be.
We are PC fans. I think a MAC is great but it's seems so backwards to me like it's meant for left=brained people. :-)
